Volkswagen will present the electric camper ID. California Cruise at the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf from August 28 to September 6, 2026. It is currently a concept, but the company plans to launch a series of fully electric campers. The model is expected to use a 91 kWh battery, providing a range of over 487 km.
The main challenge is weight: the standard ID. Buzz weighs 2471 kg, leaving only 529 kg of payload. A full camper with furniture and equipment could exceed 3.5 tons, limiting range and requiring special licenses.
At the same event, VW will showcase an inflatable kitchen weighing less than 10 kg and a mattress weighing 12 kg for the T7 California Beach, both still concepts. This points to a trend toward lightweight, removable modules.
