Volkswagen Nutzfahrzeuge presented the fully electric camper ID. California Cruise at the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf, based on the ID. Buzz Pro. It is the first factory camper based on the ID. Buzz and the first electric California in 23 years. Short- and long-wheelbase versions are available, with 79 and 86 kWh batteries, and a range of up to 498 km WLTP. The model will be showcased at the Caravan Salon in 2026, with first customer deliveries expected in early 2027.
The starting price in Germany is 60,761 euros (according to other sources, around 60,800 euros). The camper features a double bed, curtains, furniture, and a California mode for autonomous use that maintains cabin temperature for up to 48 hours without external power. The Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function provides up to 2000 W to power external devices. The California App helps plan routes and find charging stations. At the rear, a foldable mattress (9 cm thick, 2030×1200 mm) is installed, and the power system supports lighting, USB, and air conditioning for up to 48 hours after the engine is off. The company plans to expand the lineup by 2028, and in North America, the ID. Buzz Tourer 4Motion with similar camper equipment will be available.
