New motorhome registrations in Germany fell by 22.2% in the third quarter of 2026 compared with the same period a year earlier. From January to September 2026, 57,890 new motorhomes were registered, down 7.2% year on year. Caravan registrations fell 4.8% to 15,396 over the same period and by 11.1% in the third quarter. According to the Caravaning Industry Association (CIVD), manufacturers overestimated demand and placed more vehicles on the market than could be absorbed. Unsold motorhomes standing at dealers for more than 24 months require large discounts and costly reconditioning, while a motorhome base vehicle alone costs about €20,000. The CIVD expects more insolvencies in the sector, but this is a risk assessment rather than a recorded number of new cases.
