According to Eurostat data, in 2025 camping nights in the EU reached 413 million, up 28.5% compared to 2015. In Greece, this figure is less than 1% of total tourist volume, while the EU average is 13.4%.
In 2024, the country operated 293 campsites with 22,830 pitches and 1,149 bungalows, with 65% being two-star and 21% three-star. The new territorial planning for tourism does not include a specific strategy for campsites and motorhomes. Law 5170/2025 caused confusion over parking, clarified by a police circular in early 2026, yet authorities continue to fine motorhome owners due to misinterpretation of the law.
About 1,200 motorhomes are registered in Greece, and in 2024 approximately 50,000 foreign motorhomes visited the country, but there are no organized parking areas for them. Many facilities remain old, investments are limited, and tourism policy prioritizes hotels and short-term rentals.
