Mercedes-Benz updates Marco Polo camper van based on V-Class

Ari Motors has introduced the Ari 458 Pro Camper, an electric motorhome measuring 3.5 meters in length. It offers a living area of 2.8 sq m, a top speed of 70 km/h, and a range of up to 230 km. The model will be available in Germany from May 1st at a price of 30,381 euros.

Pfister Waagen Bilanciai GmbH in Affing-Mühlhausen is offering a free weighing service for motorhomes and caravans. The weighing is for control purposes, not certified, and is available during business hours from Monday to Friday. Voluntary donations from the campaign will be forwarded to a charity supporting children with cancer.

Only liability insurance is mandatory for a motorhome, but additional coverage is often advisable. Comprehensive insurance can cost up to 1000 euros per year and covers accident damage and vandalism, while partial coverage applies to theft and natural events. Personal belongings in the motorhome are usually not covered by auto insurance, requiring separate contents insurance.

The Kamp-Lintfort company Pleger & Tümmermann has been upgrading motorhomes for self-sufficient travel for three years. The most requested technical upgrades include solar panels, energy storage systems, and water purification systems, which extend the time users can spend away from campgrounds.

The popularity of motorhomes and campers is increasing, intensifying conflicts over parking and infrastructure. Apps like Park4Night list thousands of overnight spots, but wild camping is prohibited in most European countries. Alternatives include platforms like Landvergnügen, which offer parking on farms in exchange for purchasing local products.

Germany's Federal Court of Justice has begun reviewing appeals in a case involving the arson of a motorhome with three sleeping occupants. In May 2023 at a campsite in Dömitz, a man, allegedly on a woman's orders, doused the vehicle with gasoline and set it on fire. Both were convicted of attempted murder and sentenced to 12.5 and 10.5 years respectively, but maintain their innocence.
