A decision on expanding Pontins Pakefield Holiday Village in Gisleham, near Lowestoft, to house Sizewell C workers has been delayed. The postponement came after representatives from Sizewell C failed to appear at the planning committee meeting, drawing criticism from councillors. East Suffolk Council deferred the application to allow for a site visit.
The application, submitted by Britannia Jinkey Jersey Ltd, seeks to add 340 caravan pitches. If approved, the site would accommodate up to 500 workers for up to 15 years, including a bus station for 25 buses. Construction would proceed in two phases: 160 pitches in the first and 180 in the second. After Sizewell C is completed, the park would revert to tourist use.
Local councils have raised concerns about traffic, infrastructure, and living conditions. However, planning officers recommend approval, stating that benefits outweigh conflicts. A Sizewell C spokesperson said the company would continue working with local partners to support next steps.
