Fire on the M5
In the early hours of Monday, 5 October, a camper van caught fire on the M5 near Pinhoe, close to Exeter. Devon and Somerset fire services received a call at 1:39 am and arrived to find the vehicle fully engulfed in flames on the hard shoulder. According to Source 2, three fire engines and a water carrier arrived at 1:40 am.
Aftermath
The fire started in the engine and was deemed accidental. The camper van was completely destroyed. The incident led to the closure of both sides of the motorway. By 5:11 am, the southbound carriageway was open, and the third lane on the northbound side was open. According to Source 2, one lane on the northbound side remains closed, with no delays reported.
