On Wednesday morning, August 19, around 9 a.m., a caravan caught fire at a campsite in Dobein (Keutschach am See, Klagenfurt-Land district). Dense smoke was visible over Lake Keutschach.
Firefighters from Keutschach and Reifnitz arrived to find the caravan burning and extinguished it using breathing apparatus. They prevented the fire from spreading to neighboring caravans and tents. The operation involved 11 firefighters from Keutschach and support from Reifnitz.
According to preliminary information, the cause of the fire was a technical defect in the distribution board. Guests tried to extinguish the fire with 15 fire extinguishers, but by the time firefighters arrived, the caravan was already fully engulfed. No injuries were reported. Extinguishing work continued until late morning.
Police ruled out arson. A 71-year-old German permanent camper noticed a smell of burnt plastic and saw white smoke coming from the electrical connection of a neighboring unoccupied camper. The damage is being assessed.
