A major fire broke out early on June 3, 2026, at a campsite in Niederkrüchten-Brempt (Viersen district, North Rhine-Westphalia). The fire spread quickly due to the dense layout.
According to some sources, five caravans were completely destroyed and ten others seriously damaged. Other sources report ten caravans and several outbuildings destroyed. One car was also damaged.
Three people sustained minor injuries; a 41-year-old woman was hospitalized with smoke inhalation (or, according to other reports, as a precaution). Around 70 emergency responders arrived at about 5:00 a.m.; the fire was extinguished by 7:00 a.m. The preliminary cause is a technical defect. Police are investigating.
