Motorhome fire at Krems campsite
On Wednesday, May 27, a motorhome fire broke out at the ÖAMTC campsite in Krems-Stein, Lower Austria. The fire started near the stove. According to police, the cause was a short circuit in the gas heater cable (some sources mention cable overheating).
Two campers who noticed the flames tried to extinguish them with fire extinguishers but suffered smoke inhalation. Another woman experienced circulatory collapse. All three were taken to hospital; one source reports they were discharged after examination.
Firefighters cut open the side wall, disconnected the power supply, removed the gas cylinder and used a thermal imaging camera to monitor. The exact cause is under investigation.
