The 76-year-old driver noticed smoke from the engine compartment, stopped, and removed the gas cylinder to prevent an explosion. Firefighters extinguished the blaze; no one was injured, and damage is estimated in the lower five-figure range in euros. During the operation, an 18-year-old female passenger filmed the scene on her phone, and a case was opened against her for violating privacy.
On Wednesday evening on highway A3 near Niedernhausen, a motorhome caught fire, and the flames spread to the forest, causing a multi-kilometer traffic jam and a complete closure of the southbound direction. The 66-year-old driver noticed smoke from under the right front wheel and stopped on the shoulder. Two gas cylinders exploded, and the fire destroyed about 2500 square meters of forest. Damage to the motorhome is estimated at 25,000 euros; forest damage has not yet been determined.
