On June 12, in Amarillo, Texas, the Tin Can Tourists organization held an open house at Big Texan RV Park (1414 Sunrise Drive) as part of the Route 66 centennial celebrations.
The event featured 65 vintage trailers, including a 1946 model with a bunk layout and two double beds, as well as Airstreamⓘ aluminum trailers from the 1950s–1970s. One participant brought a restored 1949 Vagabond, found in a forest where it had sat since 1952.
The rally drew owners from Chicago, Florida, and other states; a caravan of vintage RVs traveled along Route 66, stopping in Adrian and finishing at Big Texan RV Ranch. The open house was free to the public.
