Proponents of a proposed 74-unit campground on Canmore’s (Alberta) Staircase Lands have sent a letter to neighbors outlining how community feedback is being incorporated into the project as it moves through the Town’s review process. The Trailhaus project team said feedback from a June open house, emails, social media comments and petitions focused on wildlife, wildfire risk, traffic, neighbourhood impacts and visitor behavior. They are now updating the project’s environmental impact statement following additional fieldwork and developing a seasonal stewardship and visitor management framework. The proposal is for a seasonal campground with 74 glamping tents on land near the Peaks of Grassi and Homesteads neighborhoods and Quarry Lake. The land is designated as a future development district and campgrounds are a discretionary use.
