Ibiza caravan resident: 'Landlords abuse you, charge for washing a pot, don't let you cook'

Environmental group AGADEN Ecologistas en Acción has raised concerns over a new motorhome parking and overnight area on plot 326, polygon 16 in El Lentiscal (Bolonia), near the Strait Natural Park. The association claims the facility encroaches on public maritime-terrestrial domain and lacks urban planning approval. On July 7, AGADEN filed a formal request with Tarifa City Council seeking details on permits and inspections, but received only a bureaucratic acknowledgment citing transparency law and a one-month response period. The Strait Natural Park directorate stated it has no record of municipal authorization for the site. AGADEN also criticizes the ban on motorhome parking in public lots while private paid parking areas operate in El Lentiscal.

The camper and motorhome rental platform Yescapa has highlighted five of Spain's most unusual traditional festivals, ideal for a camper or motorhome trip. These include La Chúndara in Peñafiel (August 15–17) with water-throwing, Diagosto in La Alberca (August 15) with traditional dances, the Gràcia neighbourhood festival in Barcelona (from August 14) with decorated streets, horse races in Sanlúcar de Barrameda (August 8–10 and 21–23) on the beach, and the Gancheros festival in Poveda de la Sierra (last weekend of August) with log floating.

The sixth Gulliver Fest, a festival dedicated to travel culture, concluded in Pedroso, attracting caravan and camping enthusiasts. Refunds for cashless wristbands will be available from Monday 10 to Friday 14 until 23:59. The program included yoga, the vintage mobile disco La Duendeneta, Atípico Circo, Teatro Sobre Ruedas, performances by Hafa Afrosweet and Balkan Bomba, and a talk by Rosa María Calaf.

In May and June 2026, 308 motorhomes arrived on Ibiza, a 75.8% drop compared to the same period in 2024, the last year without restrictions. In 2025, the first year of restrictions, the decline was 54.2%. The restrictions, in force since January 1, 2025, allow only motorhomes with a reserved pitch at campsites (about 200 pitches) and impose fines up to 30,000 euros for parking on rural land. The National Commission for Markets and Competition (CNMC) has requested the suspension of the agreement granting 14,000 permits to car rental companies for 2026-2027, but the Consell d'Eivissa is contesting this in court.

Motorhome rentals in Spain have reached full occupancy for the solar eclipse in August. According to the Association of Caravanning Companies of the Valencian Community (ACCVal), all motorhomes are already rented out, and in some regions like Soria and León, no vehicles are available. In Madrid, only four motorhomes are available for the eclipse week, with rental prices exceeding 1,000 euros for four nights. Demand is also boosted by the Perseid meteor shower, making it impossible to find a free motorhome.

In Spain, the interactive app Camper Check has been launched to help choose a motorhome route based on who you travel with: a couple, friends, children, or pets. The service filters thousands of options, taking into account preferences and budget, and offers a tailored itinerary. The tool targets the growing demand for motorhome travel in the country.
