Spain tightens MOT rules for motorhomes and campervans

The Tarifa Business Federation has reported an increase in illegal overnight stays by motorhomes, campers, and other vehicles in the Los Carriles and Los Lances Norte area, part of the Strait Natural Park. The organization highlights environmental damage and coexistence issues with residents and visitors. It calls for coordinated action by authorities to enforce regulations and protect the natural area, stating that park protection and orderly tourism are complementary.

Alicante-based company Trota Mundos Camper rents and sells fully equipped campervans and motorhomes. Rental prices range from €100 to €150 per day depending on the season, with capacity for up to four people. The package includes kitchenware, bedding, and board games. The company is also hosting a charity event on June 6 in Alicante, where each Ford test drive will donate €30 to Alicante Gastronómica Solidaria.

The Tarifa Business Federation has called for urgent administrative action against the proliferation of motorhomes and camper vans illegally overnighting in the Estrecho Natural Park. The group highlights environmental damage, including waste accumulation and dune degradation, and demands stricter enforcement. Fines for violations can reach up to €5,000.

Starting June 15, the municipality of A Illa de Arousa (Spain) will prohibit motorhome parking in the Riasón area, with the only designated parking at the O Bao lot. A paid blue zone will be introduced at Area da Secada beach, operating from 10:00 to 20:00 at €0.50 per hour (max €4.50 per day), with a complete parking ban from 00:00 to 08:00. A tourist train with a circular route will also launch (€2 for residents, €7 for adults, €4 for children aged 3–12, €1 for infants), and public bicycles will return.

Police in Sant Josep dismantled an illegal settlement of 12 caravans and a tent in the Ses Salines Natural Park on Ibiza. Ten fines of €10,000 to €30,000 were issued, and three caravans were seized. Kitchens, fire remains, gas cylinders, batteries, and generators were found on site.

The municipality of Ibiza has completed the dismantling of an illegal caravan settlement in the sa Joveria area. Most residents left voluntarily, fearing fines. About ten caravans were towed to a municipal lot.
