Spain's Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) has published instruction PROT 2026/04, updating the frequency of technical inspections (ITV) for motorhomes and campers.
Under the new rules, campers (category N) under 10 years old must pass ITV annually, while those over 10 years old must do so every six months. Motorhomes (category M) under 4 years are exempt, from 4 to 10 years every two years, and over 10 years annually.
The change is based on a Supreme Court ruling of March 13, 2018, which also allows municipalities to limit parking time and prohibit overnight stays on urban streets. A new road sign S-128 has been introduced for waste disposal points. The update follows a rise in motorhome numbers from 48,000 in 2015 to 137,000 currently.
