MOT test (UK)

Legal & Registration United Kingdom

MOT, MOT test, Ministry of Transport test, UK roadworthiness test, motorhome MOT, class 4 MOT, class 7 MOT

The MOT is the annual UK roadworthiness and safety test. Motorhomes need one from the third anniversary of first registration, the same as cars.

The test covers brakes, steering, suspension, tyres, lights, emissions and structural corrosion — the chassis, not the living area. Motorhomes up to 3,500 kg take a class 4 MOT; heavier vehicles up to 7,500 kg take class 7. Fees are capped by the DVSA at around £54.85 (class 4) and £58.60 (class 7). Insurance and vehicle tax are invalid without a current MOT. The habitation side is covered by a separate habitation check, and gas by a Gas Safety Certificate.
