Spain's DGT (Directorate General of Traffic) has published instruction PROT 2026/04, updating the technical inspection (ITV) rules for motorhomes and campers.
Under the new rules, motorhomes (category M) must be inspected every two years when aged 4 to 10 years, and annually after 10 years. Campers (category N), including vans converted into living spaces, require annual inspection up to 10 years, and every six months once they exceed 10 years.
Spain has 137,000 registered motorhomes, a number that has tripled over the past decade. A new road sign S-128 has also been introduced, indicating waste water disposal points.
