The European Union has approved a driving licence reform to be implemented between 2028 and 2030. The main change raises the maximum authorised mass for category B from 3,500 kg to 4,250 kg for electric and alternative-fuel vehicles. This allows driving heavier motorhomes, vans, and ambulances without a C1 licence. Drivers must have held a B licence for at least two years and may need additional training. The reform also introduces licences at age 17 (with mandatory accompaniment) and a digital driving licence.
