The European Union is revising its driving licence directive, raising the maximum authorised mass for category B from 3,500 kg to 4,250 kg. This will allow B‑licence holders to drive vans, motorhomes and heavy electric vehicles without needing a C licence. Drivers must have at least two years of experience to operate vehicles up to 4.25 t, and electric motorhomes require additional training or a test. The reform aims to remove weight‑related barriers to electric vehicle adoption, as battery packs often push vehicles over the current limit.
