The growing popularity of camper and caravan travel in Spain is causing problems in tourist areas. In February, new vehicle registrations increased by 84% compared to the previous year. Some municipalities, such as Tarifa, have tightened parking rules due to overcrowded lots and increased litter.
The industry association points to a lack of infrastructure: Spain has only about 1,400 official camper sites, while France, Germany and the Netherlands have more than 7,000.
