Caravan not covered by car insurance; Dutch often unaware

Comparison site Autoverzekering.nl warns that car insurance does not cover damage caused by a caravan after it is uncoupled. While hitched, third-party liability is covered by the car's WA insurance. Once uncoupled and parked, this coverage ends, and damage from storms or fire may only be covered by a separate liability insurance (AVP), but not always. Damage to the caravan itself (e.g., from hail or theft) without a separate caravan insurance is entirely the owner's responsibility.
