China is seeing a rise in the popularity of RV travel, but infrastructure is lagging behind. In the city of Qingdao, there are fewer than 10 full-fledged campsites with water supply and sewage per 1,000 RVs. Of about 30 stopping places, fewer than 10 have full infrastructure, including water and electricity hookups and waste disposal facilities.
Key problems include difficulties in obtaining land permits for campsite construction and low profitability due to seasonal demand. Many existing sites are closing due to unprofitability, and there is no regulatory framework for RV parking and movement in the city.
