Netherlands introduces road toll for trucks, motorhomes exempt

A team of engineering students from Eindhoven University of Technology (Netherlands) has developed the Stella Vita motorhome, which runs entirely on solar energy. Range on a sunny day reaches 730 km, on a cloudy day about 600 km. Integrated panels covering 8.8 sq m and deployable side panels provide full off-grid capability for two people.

Ferrari has confirmed that the Luce electric crossover will be the first model from the brand to offer a tow bar. This will allow the vehicle to tow a caravan. The decision follows customer requests for travel use.

Starting July 1, 2026, the Netherlands introduces a kilometer charge for N2 and N3 category vehicles (gross weight over 3500 kg). The average rate is €0.191 per km. Motorhomes registered as camper vans are exempt, even if they weigh over 3500 kg. Owners of motorhomes with foreign plates are advised to register the exemption in advance on the vrachtwagenheffing.nl portal.

Benimar has introduced four new floorplans for the Yrteo series for 2027. Models Y881 (5.99 m) and Y885 (6.39 m) replace fixed beds with drop-down beds, increasing vehicle height to 2.89 m. The compressor fridge capacity has been raised from 70 to 150 liters, and the entry door width from 56 to 65 cm. Payload has been improved by reducing furniture weight.

Dutch company Ventje has unveiled the T7 camper van based on the new Volkswagen Transporter. The model features a modular interior with seats that fold completely into the floor, allowing the vehicle to serve as both a family van and a camper. Powertrain options include diesel, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric. Prices start at €95,000.

Dethleffs has launched the Summer Edition caravan series, available in seven layouts. The starting price is €28,990. Models include a 137-liter refrigerator, air conditioning preparation, and Tempo 100 certification for towing at up to 100 km/h in Germany. Maximum permissible mass ranges from 1,700 kg to 2,000 kg depending on the model.
