According to the state statistical office IT.NRW, as of January 1, 2026, there were 211,800 registered motorhomes in North Rhine-Westphalia, up 7% from the previous year and 35.7% more than in 2022. The only city where registrations declined was Mönchengladbach.
The density of motorhomes in the state was 118 per 10,000 residents, below the national average of 125. The highest density was in the Coesfeld district (197), the lowest in Gelsenkirchen (56). Districts had 149,400 motorhomes (139 per 10,000 residents), while cities had 62,400 (86 per 10,000).
In the Ennepe-Ruhr district, about 4,500 motorhomes were registered at the start of 2026, 76% more than six years earlier, before the COVID-19 pandemic. The density there was 142 per 10,000 residents, above the state average. In Hamm, 1,775 motorhomes were registered.
Overload prevention
On Wednesday, police in Euskirchen are holding a free weighing event for motorhomes, caravans, and trailers from 2 to 5 p.m. at the THW site on Otto-Lilienthal Street. The aim is to inform about the risks of overloading and improve road safety. Violations are not fined; the focus is on prevention. Participants must bring their vehicle registration documents.
