At the Caravan Salon 2026 in Germany, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles presented the ID.California Cruise — the first fully electric camper based on the ID.Buzz. The model is available in short-wheelbase (3.00 m) and long-wheelbase (3.24 m) versions, designed for two people, and equipped with a foldable mattress measuring 203 x 120 x 9 cm, which, combined with folding rear seats, forms a double bed. Furniture, curtains, two chairs, and a table are included. An electrochromic glass roof is also provided.
A backup power system ensures operation of lighting, USB ports, and air conditioning for up to 48 hours (California Mode), as well as a 2000 W socket for external devices (V2L function, 230 V). Peak V2L power reaches 3.6 kW. Unlike other California models, there is no kitchen or gas stove, and no option for a roof tent. The model integrates with the California App for charging planning.
Sales in Europe will begin in early 2027, with prices in Germany starting at €60,761 (according to Motor1.com Italia, from €60,800). The model features 79 or 86 kWh batteries, a range of about 400–440 km (up to 498 km WLTP according to Spanish sources, up to 455 km according to n-tv.de), fast charging up to 200 kW, and Plug & Charge. Volkswagen plans to expand the fully electric California lineup by 2028. According to sources, sales will start in autumn, and pre-orders in Latvia in late 2026. The price in France will be around €60,000. The model will appear in the US later under the name Tourer.
