Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has updated the Grand California motorhome with a photovoltaic system and lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO₄) batteries. Instead of the standard 92 Ah AGM battery, buyers can choose two LiFePO₄ batteries, increasing usable capacity by nearly 40% from about 46 Ah to 64 Ah. The new batteries last about five times more charge-discharge cycles and have deep discharge protection. Depending on the version (Grand California 600 or 680), solar panel output is 104 W or 174 W. In Germany, replacing AGM with LiFePO₄ starts at €833, and the full package with panels starts at €1,719.55 for the 600 and €2,326.45 for the 680. The update also includes driver assistance systems (fatigue monitor, intersection assistant), a multimedia system with up to 12-inch display, and an 'Atami Bamboo' interior trim.
