Volkswagen presented the production version of the ID. California Cruise at the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf, marking the first fully electric camper in the 23-year history of the California line. The model is based on the rear-wheel-drive ID. Buzz Pro with 210 kW (286 hp) and is available with a short wheelbase and 79 kWh battery (range up to 460 km WLTP) or a long wheelbase with 86 kWh (up to 498 km WLTP). According to ID. Buzz Pro data, range is estimated at 455–479 km, while a Canadian source cites 286–302 miles.
The sleeping area measures 2.03×1.20 m and accommodates two people. Standard equipment includes ventilation grilles, blinds, two camping chairs and a table. California mode maintains a comfortable cabin temperature for up to 48 hours, and V2L function powers external devices at up to 2 kW continuous (peak 3.6 kW). Plug & Charge is also supported.
The starting price is €60,761 (one source says from €60,800). First deliveries are expected in early 2027. Sales will begin in Europe, with no plans for other regions yet. Volkswagen plans to expand the electric California lineup by 2028. The company had previously called an electric motorhome impossible due to weight; the vehicle's mass has not been disclosed.
