German company Urbanoid GmbH of Kaiserslautern has developed Booba One. On the road it looks like a small closed luggage trailer, and at a campsite it turns into a sleeping place for two adults. The base is a rigid composite body, and an inflatable tent with air columns rises on top. According to the manufacturer, inflating the tent takes one minute and 50 seconds, and the full set-up takes five to seven minutes. An electric pump inflates the tent, so there are no poles to fit and no separate tent to pitch.
Bedroom and sitting room in one space
Inside there is a sprung mattress for two. During the day the space works as a small sitting area with four seats and a removable table. There is a 45-litre water tank and an outdoor shower, but no kitchen and no toilet. Booba One is intended for camping from spring to autumn.
Weight, storage and price
The trailer weighs 280 kg and has a maximum permitted total weight of 400 kg, leaving 120 kg for luggage. Because it is light, some smaller cars and electric cars can tow it. Before setting off, drivers must check the permitted towing weight of their car and the load on the tow bar. For electric cars the manufacturer estimates energy use rises by about 15 per cent. With a special stand the trailer can be stored upright against a garage wall, taking up less floor space. The price is €15,900, and the standard equipment includes an EcoFlowⓘ River 3 portable charging station.
