Traditional German manufacturer Bürstner will completely exit the caravan segment from the 2027 season, focusing on campers and motorhomes. The decision follows a record drop in caravan sales across Europe and Germany.

Bürstner has announced it will cease caravan production from the 2027 season. The company is shifting its focus to campers and motorhomes, which continue to see stable demand.

Market situation

According to industry data, around 54,200 new caravans were registered in Europe in 2025 — 11% fewer than the previous year. In Germany, the decline was even steeper: 18,766 registrations, down 13.4% from 2024 and close to the historic low of 2010. The motorhome market remained stable, with 161,000 registrations in Europe (+0.6%) and 75,368 in Germany (+0.9%).

Bürstner's plans

The company will continue producing a compact camper, a six-meter van, and a partially integrated motorhome. Bürstner guarantees spare parts supply for previously sold caravans.

Motorhomes in Danger: Major Fire Department Operation in Irsingen

A fire alarm in Irsingen on Wednesday evening triggered a large-scale response from multiple fire departments. Smoke was detected from a barn on the southern edge of Irsingen, where motorhomes were stored. Firefighters from Irsingen, Türkheim, and Bad Wörishofen used breathing apparatus and thermal imaging cameras to quickly bring the situation under control. The cause is suspected to be a technical defect; damage assessment is ongoing.

Unusual cargo: police find live animals in camper van

During a border check in Freilassing, police stopped a camper van with an unusual load. Inside were 12 guinea pigs, 8 boxes of bumblebees, and 3 boxes of insects (spider mites, aphids, predatory mites, parasitic wasps, and gall midges). The driver lacked import certificates required under the internal market animal health regulations. The guinea pigs were taken to a shelter, and the driver faces a fine.

No more long-term campers at Waidring campsite

The new operator of the 'Camping Steinplatte' site in Waidring, Tentoria GmbH, is terminating contracts with seasonal campers and shifting focus to short-term tourist stays. Annual agreements expire on September 30, 2026; campers may extend for one final season (€4,900 plus extras) but must vacate by end of October 2027. The local tourism board (TVB) called the move 'understandable' and said the planned upgrades align with current market demand.
