On Saturday, July 18, 2026, at around 15:22, a campervan overturned on the A1 motorway near Stuhr (Lower Saxony). According to police, the 74-year-old driver from Haltern am See was heading towards Osnabrück. While exiting towards the Kiekut-Nord rest area, he reportedly lost control due to inappropriate speed, veered left, hit a guardrail, and the vehicle tipped onto its side, coming to rest on the green area.
The driver and his 69-year-old passenger sustained minor injuries. Rescue services freed them through the side door and a cut-out windshield, then took them to hospital. The campervan had to be recovered with special equipment. Damage is estimated at around 8000 euros. During the rescue operation, the main lane of the A1 was closed, causing a long traffic jam. The circumstances are under investigation.
