In Brief

Two camper vans appeared on a green space in Whitley, Reading, for the first time in memory. Residents fear a three-week stay; council says it lacks resources to act.

In the Whitley area of Reading, UK, two camper vans have occupied a green space on Foxhays Road for the first time in memory. Neighbors reported the vehicles were seen around 3:00 PM on Wednesday, August 19. Residents fear the group may stay for three weeks and have asked the council to intervene.

The council stated it lacks resources and has no designated temporary accommodation sites, complicating eviction. Thames Valley Police have already spoken with the people in the campers. A previous project to create seven caravan sites was canceled due to flood risk.
