In the Grolloërveen nature reserve (Drenthe, Netherlands), a campervan broke through a wooden walkway intended for pedestrians and cyclists. The driver, following GPS directions, took a wrong turn and drove onto the structure, which could not support the vehicle's weight. Several planks broke, leaving the camper stuck.
Staatsbosbeheer has received over 300 letters and calls with recovery suggestions — from air cushions and draft horses to a Chinook helicopter, but the latter was ruled out due to environmental impact. The agency asks people to stop contacting them, as rangers cannot keep up with regular work.
Recovery is planned using ribbed plates and a winch; no exact date has been set. The driver was fined for driving in a pedestrian zone. Damage to the walkway is estimated at 30,000–40,000 euros and will be covered by insurance.
