Series of camper fires in the Netherlands and Belgium
In the past six months, at least four camper fires have occurred in the Netherlands and Belgium. In Velsen-Noord (Belgium) on July 15, 2026, around 23:50, a camper on a company parking lot on Rijksweg was completely destroyed. Firefighters had to dismantle part of a fence to gain access. Cause under investigation.
In Groenlo (Netherlands) on June 20, 2026, in the morning, a parked camper burned out completely. Firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to a nearby sports hall. Several small gas cylinders inside exploded; large cylinders remained intact. Cause under investigation.
In Brouwershaven (Netherlands) on the night of June 20, 2026, lightning struck a camper on a campsite, causing a total fire. Firefighters arrived around 03:00, extinguished the blaze and removed two gas cylinders and a battery. Special tools were needed to open the door and remove the seat. The preliminary cause is lightning.
In Nieuw-Volendam (Netherlands) on December 11, 2025, early in the morning, a HYMERⓘ B 614 SL motorhome parked at a sports campus burned out completely. A gas cylinder exploded, debris scattered across the area. Police are investigating the cause.
