A lithium battery spontaneously smoked and ignited in a parked caravan in Mijdrecht, Netherlands, on Sunday afternoon, causing total destruction of the interior. A neighbour on Diamant Street used two garden hoses to keep the caravan's exterior wet until emergency services arrived. Firefighters found the seat of the fire in a hard-to-reach spot near the battery and struck a targeted opening in the outer wall to cool the fire from outside before entering. A high concentration of carbon monoxide was later detected; the caravan was pushed to a parking bay to clear the road.
