The Matterhorn Gotthard Railway (MGB) has applied to the Federal Office of Transport (BAV) to stop transporting vehicles taller than 3.05 meters through the Furka Tunnel from November 1. This would affect trucks, coaches, and larger motorhomes. In 2025, the railway carried about 285,500 vehicles through the tunnel, of which only about 940 were oversized. MGB cites safety risks, reduced capacity, and higher effort on transport wagons. Since November 2021, there have been three incidents with tall vehicles. A decision is pending; BAV will consult the cantons of Uri and Valais.
