A woman who has spent over 23 years traveling with dogs and sleeping in her vehicle described an incident in which one of her four dogs lost two claws on an escalator at the Parada Saku-daira highway oasis in Nagano Prefecture. She had left at 19:30 with the dogs to visit hot springs in Komata, walked them at the stop, and then carried one on her back, two in a sling and one under her arm up the escalator. Blood appeared on the snow beneath the dog's paws; she bought a bandage and water at a shop, treated the wound and returned home instead of continuing to the hot springs.
