Global uncertainty boosts demand for holidays in Switzerland

In early May, a group of foreign travelers with about 20 motorhomes sought temporary parking in the canton of St. Gallen. They were refused in Altstätten, and the site in Buchs was already occupied.

The Brock Christensen family sold their house in Denmark and have been traveling Europe in a motorhome for two years, visiting 19 countries. The father works remotely as a salesperson, while the mother homeschools their three children. During the 16th stage of the Giro d'Italia in Switzerland, they met cyclist Jonas Vingegaard, who is from their home region.

On Sunday in Schongau (Lucerne), a motorcyclist crashed into a motorhome. The accident occurred around 5:55 PM on Mettmenstrasse as the motorhome was overtaking a cyclist. The motorcyclist was injured and taken to hospital. The road was closed for several hours.

In 2025, Switzerland registered a record 110,368 motorhomes, according to BFS and ASTRA statistics. This has increased supply on the used market, where buyers are now more focused on condition, mileage, and service history. Auto-Wohnmobil-Ankauf reports that sellers increasingly seek fast, secure sales without lengthy negotiations or listings.

LiTime has launched a series of LiFePO4 batteries designed for under-seat installation in European motorhomes and campervans. In May, the company unveiled the H168 model with a height of 168 mm, enabling replacement of lead-acid batteries without altering interior layout. The series offers three capacities: 100 Ah (11.15 kg), 140 Ah, and 320 Ah, all featuring Bluetooth monitoring and certifications ECE-R10, CE, RoHS, UN38.3, FCC.

Manufacturers of electric vehicles and caravans are adapting to each other. Modern EVs like the VW ID Polo (towing up to 1200 kg) and BMW iX (up to 2.5 t) come with tow bars. Caravans are becoming lighter and more aerodynamic: for example, the Knaus Yaseo (from 913 kg) or Adria Avia Lite (660 kg). However, towing reduces range by about half, and charging requires uncoupling the trailer at many stations.
