Housing shortage creates new motorhome hotspot right in front of royal palace in Mallorca

The number of motorhomes and camper vans used as housing is increasing on the free municipal parking lot of Marivent in Palma. On July 9, 16 vehicles were parked there, whose owners work in the hospitality industry and cannot afford rental housing. The 30,000 sq m parking lot was opened in 2023 as a relief lot after the promenade reconstruction. Residents say the cheapest apartment costs 1,400 euros, making living in a motorhome the only affordable option.
