Rafael, a Spanish airport employee, lives in a motorhome of about 8 square meters on the outskirts of Malaga because he cannot afford conventional housing. Rents in Spain rose 8.5% year-on-year in late 2025, according to Idealista. Rafael says this is the only way he can save money for his daughter. Dozens of families and workers reportedly live similarly on the same lot, some earning around 1,500 euros per month.
