Monika and Wolfgang Hotfilter from Osnabrück (Lower Saxony) travel in a 1968 Orion camper, which they bought 40 years ago. Over this time, they have covered about 400,000 kilometers, with a total mileage of 500,000 kilometers. In 2019, they drove it to the North Cape at temperatures down to -35 degrees.
The original Hanomag chassis was replaced with a Mercedes, while the body remains from Detmold. In 1993, the engine power was increased from 54 to about 100 horsepower. The owners note that the speed is rather slow, but this allows them to enjoy the trip. The 1968 Orion prototype was originally intended as an amphibious vehicle, but production models on the Hanomag base no longer had this function.
