According to Eurostat and an INSETE study, the EU recorded 413 million overnight stays in campsites in 2025, up 28.5% from 2015. In Greece, despite 293 campsites in 2024, camping accounts for less than 1% of total tourist traffic, compared to a European average of 13.4%. Greece's new tourism planning framework, approved in August 2026, does not include a dedicated strategy for camping and caravanning, while a February 2026 police circular allows motorhomes up to 7.5 meters to park outside campsites, provided no camping equipment is set up.
