The popularity of camper van and motorhome travel is rising in Europe as a cost-effective alternative to traditional tourism. In Italy, the Assocamper association promotes itineraries through villages and thematic routes, including 'centenarian itineraries' linked to the birthplaces of famous figures. According to Federconsumatori, campsite price increases last year remained within 2%, well below those in the hotel sector. In Austria, overnight stays in campsites grew from 5.45 million in 2015 to 8.8 million in 2025, while in Spain the number of motorhomes nearly tripled over a decade, from 48,000 to 137,000.
