2-night, 3-day camper van trip to Sado Island

The author took a 2-night, 3-day camper van trip to Sado Island, Niigata Prefecture, Japan. An earlier attempt during Golden Week was cancelled due to a ferry cancellation caused by bad weather. This time the trip included a dog. Weather and ferry schedules were uncertain due to a typhoon, but there was almost no rain. The Sea of Japan was noted for clear water, abundant fish and shellfish, and beautiful sunsets at Futatsugame and Onogame. Sado Island was described as having the best environment for overnight stays with day-use bathing and toilets. The author also visited Kinzan and Gold Park but plans to focus on fishing and camping next time. Advance restaurant reservations are recommended due to holiday crowds. The author plans to return in summer.
