Spain's DGT has issued instruction PROT 2026/04, requiring camper vans (converted vans registered as goods vehicles, category N) older than 10 years to pass the ITV technical inspection every six months. Motorhomes (category M) of the same age will continue with annual inspections. The rule aims to distinguish between vehicle types based on registration: camper vans are classified as freight vehicles, while motorhomes are passenger vehicles. Over 137,000 such vehicles are registered in Spain, affecting thousands of owners.
