Argentine cities regulate motorhome parking: Mar del Plata and Comodoro Rivadavia

The Mar del Plata City Council will debate a proposal to permit motorhomes weighing up to 3,500 kg to park during the day in coastal areas, where it is currently banned. The initiative would prohibit overnight parking (10 p.m. to 8 a.m.), using motorhomes as dwellings in public spaces, and discharging gray or black water. Councilman Ricardo Liceaga Viñas, who introduced the bill, argues that for many owners the motorhome is their only vehicle.

The Deliberative Council of Comodoro Rivadavia is drafting an ordinance to regulate the circulation, parking, and overnight stays of motorhomes and recreational vehicles. The initiative responds to a lack of specific infrastructure, as the city currently has no designated areas for basic services like loading, unloading, cleaning, or temporary parking. The proposal would restrict motorhomes to park and sleep only in specially authorized spaces, with locations being identified for safety and service provision. The regulation is part of a broader tourism strategy to position the city as a planned stop on Patagonian travel routes, and discussions are underway with private investors to develop and manage these areas.

The municipality of Comodoro Rivadavia is discussing projects to create designated areas for motorhomes and campers. Options in the northern and southern parts of the city, as well as the use of the Auto Moto Club site, are being evaluated. Concurrently, authorities are addressing security concerns in Caleta Córdova, including the installation of cameras at entry and exit points. Final decisions on motorhome spaces will be made in future meetings.

The municipality of Comodoro Rivadavia has begun analyzing options to create designated areas for motorhomes and RVs. The initiative was discussed at a city council committee meeting and includes a public space provided by the municipality, along with potential private sectors offering complementary services.
