Spain's Interior Ministry has clarified that sleeping inside a parked caravan, motorhome or camper is not considered illegal parking if the vehicle is properly parked and does not exceed its dimensions. According to recent amendments to the Traffic Regulations, motorhomes can park in cities under the same conditions as other vehicles.
What counts as camping
Setting up an awning, placing furniture outside or using supports that extend beyond the vehicle is classified as camping and is only allowed in designated areas. Local authorities may restrict parking time and prohibit it in certain places.
Fines
Parking violations can result in fines from 2000 to 3000 euros. In protected areas, fines may be higher. According to source 2, this is not a new law but a reminder of existing rules set out in instruction PROT 2026/04.
