Since 2020, sales of caravans and motorhomes in the Netherlands have grown significantly. The cause was the restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic, which prompted people to seek safe holiday options. After the pandemic eased, motorhome sales continued to rise.
The country has 208,300 registered motorhomes. Owners face parking restrictions: in Nijkerk, a motorhome may be parked on the street for no more than three consecutive days, and overnight stays are prohibited.
Since 2024, the vehicle tax for motorhomes has doubled, leading to annual costs of up to €2,000 and an increased supply of used vehicles. According to some sources, this could reduce demand.
