Fines for motorhome owners: parking and speed limits

Spain's DGT has started fining drivers who tow a trailer or caravan without carrying a fire extinguisher. The regulation applies to all vehicle combinations, including cars with light trailers. The fine for not having a certified, accessible extinguisher is up to 200 euros.

The Provincial Council of Seville has allocated €30 million over three years to expand tourist infrastructure in 60 municipalities. Funds will be used to build campsites, hostels, guesthouses, and motorhome parking areas. The first phase (€10 million) already funded projects in 21 municipalities; the second phase (€20 million) targets 40 locations, mostly with fewer than 5,000 residents. Maximum subsidy per project is €500,000, and facilities must be publicly owned.

Police in Oviedo have arrested a person suspected of setting fire to a motorhome parked in the La Bolgachina area. The incident occurred on Friday morning, with a thick black smoke plume visible for several kilometers. The owners had previously filed two complaints with police after the lock was broken and the vehicle was entered. Firefighters contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to nearby cars, but the motorhome sustained major damage.

The Badajoz city council will install 20 parking sensors at the motorhome area on the right bank of the Guadiana River. Work is scheduled for June 29–30, during which the parking will be closed. The €499,651 project is funded by the EU's NextGenerationEU funds.

The Canary Islands Association of Motorhomes and Campervans (ACAT) has formally requested Arona Town Hall to explain the legal basis for signs restricting certain public parking spaces to cars and motorcycles only. ACAT submitted a written request for access to administrative files, technical reports, and legal documentation behind the signs installed in Los Cristianos and other areas. The association stated it is not challenging the council's authority but wants to ensure compliance with legality, proportionality, and equal treatment. As of writing, Arona Town Hall has not publicly responded.

Municipal restrictions on free camping in Cadiz province are tightening, with fines reaching up to 200 euros. Free parking is still available at Punta de San Felipe, near Muelle Reina Sofía, Pascual Pery car park, and Santa Catalina parking in the capital, as well as at Camposoto (San Fernando) and near La Cachucha in Puerto Real. In Tarifa, due to high tourist influx, additional bans apply, especially around the Strait Natural Park and Los Lances area during peak season. Parking is legal only if the vehicle stays on its wheels, no awnings or chairs are deployed, and no waste is discharged; otherwise, it is considered illegal camping.
