On July 20, 2026, the DGT published instruction PROT 2026/04, clarifying inspection (ITV) deadlines for motorhomes and campers. For motorhomes (category M), no inspection is required for the first four years, then every two years until 10 years old, and annually thereafter. For campers (category N), inspection is mandatory annually until 10 years old, then every six months. The fine for late inspection is up to 200 euros, or 100 euros if paid early.
Parking and stopping rules are also clarified: municipalities may limit time and prohibit overnight stays outside permitted zones. Parking a motorhome is not considered camping, but deploying external elements or occupying more space may be prohibited outside special areas. A new S-128 sign has been introduced for wastewater disposal points. Owners should check their vehicle's category in their documents.
